Marjorie Noreen Crowder Currens, 90, Kokomo, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Community Howard Regional. She was born April 11, 1922, in Delphi, to Charles Parker Crowder and Jessie Florence Wiley. On July 17, 1948, she married Frederick Richard Currens, in Kokomo, and he preceded her in death.
She graduated from Delphi High School in 1940 and later moved to Kokomo from Delphi with her sister Jeanette to work in the defense factories, Haynes Stellite, during WWII. She was an avid sports fan who rooted for the Kokomo Wildcats, Haworth Huskies, and Indiana University sports, especially Bob Knight and Indiana basketball. She also loved watching and rooting for the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers and the St. Louis Cardinals. She enjoyed gardening and keeping a clean house.
She and Fred were blessed with two loving and caring daughters, Nancy Currens Hill and Pamela Currens Fortson. Her two grandchildren, Robert Kyle Fortson and Kelly Leigh Fortson Ackerman were the apple of her eye, as was her great-granddaughter, Isabella Fortson.
She is also survived by her 97 year old sister, Jeanette Hickman; sons-in-law, Larry Hill and Bob Fortson; granddaughter's husband, Chad Ackerman and grandson's wife, Monique; step-grandchildren, Kim Fortson Pratt and son Colton, Brad Fortson and children, Caleb, Lexi and Evan, Jackie Branch and husband Scott and children Kaile and Joe, and Michele Pena and husband Luis and children Karah, Kassie, L.J., and Curtis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wilbur, Charles, Thomas and Perry; and sisters, Florence, Mary, Dorothy and Luella.
The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the
