Mary Lillian (Swain) Allen, 96, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2011 in Wichita Falls. Graveside Services will be combined with her daughter's service, held at 3 PM on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.
Mary was born to Cornelia (Davis) Swain and Earnest Judson Swain in Webster County Mississippi. She was raised by her grandparents in Horn, Mississippi. After High School, she attended Draughons Business College in Memphis, Tennessee. She worked in accounting for the Veterans Administration in Memphis and later moved to Tucson, Arizona where she worked at Davis-Monthan AFB. In 1948, she relocated to Sheppard AFB where she worked until retirement in 1980. She married the love of her life, Oran C. Allen in 1954. They were happily married for 30 years when he preceded her in death. She was a member of the AARP, United Regional Auxiliary, Red Door Senior Citizens Center, and was a member of Floral Heights Methodist Church. Her daughter, Dale Marie Chanky, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her step-son, Eugene Allen.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Ronald Allen Ramage, Tara Lynn Payne, Mary Payne, and Barry Baxter, all of Wichita Falls; Cathryn Lee Cople of Lancaster, California and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls.
