Mary Glunk, 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 8, 2013 in Bridgewater, NJ. Born in Newark, Mary grew up in the ironbound section of Newark and resided there until 1967. She was very active in St. Aloysius Church and school as a member of the Rosary Society; she was also a member of the Ironbound Boys Club where she ran calendar parties and various dances. She later moved to Union where she became an active communicant of St. Michael's Parish. She volunteered at the school by running the school library and helping with the school plays. Mary was a member of many clubs and organizations including the Catholic Daughters, Eucharistic Minister, St. Michael Cursillo, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Michael A. Kelly VFW Post 2243 in Union, and she visited the homebound and nursing homes. Mary loved to dance and was an avid crafter, using her talents to make hundreds of lap rugs and scarves for
and also made wreathes for St. Michael's Church for Easter and helped decorate for Christmas. Her greatest love, however, was her family.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Al, her parents, William and Mary Vesey, her son Thomas, and brother William. She is survived by her loving daughters Patricia Halicki and husband Mark, Cecilia Petela and her husband John, and Mary Ann Hogerty and husband Daniel, as well as her 7 grandchildren, sister Rita Boan, and daughter-in-law Joan. Throughout Mary's illness, her love and recognition of her family never faltered and for that her children and grandchildren are eternally grateful.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 12 from 5-9 PM at the McCracken Funeral Home 1500 Morris Ave Union, NJ. Funeral will be held from the funeral home on Saturday, July 13 at 9:15AM with funeral mass to follow at St. Michael's Church, Union at 10:15AM. Interment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's name may be made to the
