Mattie Jo Adair passed away peacefully at her home on Lincoln Hill, Poulsbo, Washington, Monday, Dec. 5th 2011. Mattie was born January 6th 1922 in Wayne County, West Virginia to Delbert and Malta Dyer. She was the oldest of 8 children. In 1941 she met the love of her life, Leslie, and on Dec. 29th 1941 they married. Leslie was in the Navy and as a result they lived in numerous locations throughout the country, including Hawaii, Florida, California, Utah and since 1953 in Washington State. They lived a few years in Central Valley (near Silverdale Wa.) and in 1960 they moved their family to a small farm on Lincoln Hill, Poulsbo, Washington where they lived till they passed.
Mattie is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Leslie, her parents, 3 brothers, Jonnie, Oscar, Walter, and two sisters, Mildred and Phyilis. Surviving are her three children, Leslie Dee Adair (Gayle) of Carmen, Idaho, Patricia May Engh (Dan) and Dale Lynn Adair (Marie) of Poulsbo, Washington, one sister Lorene Clay and one brother Paul Dyer of Ohio. Mattie found great pleasure in her 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mattie will always be remembered for her sense of humor, and the ability to always see the good in people and the positive side of things. A major milestone in her life came on January 30, 1949 when she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Her faith in God and the Bible provided the principles by which she lived and she was eager to share her beliefs to any who would listen. She was in Poulsbo when the Congregation was formed in 1954 and died a faithful member. She believed with all her heart in God's Kingdom and the resurrection. These beliefs have eased to some degree the pain of her passing. The family would like to express our appreciation to the Poulsbo Congregation Of Jehovah's Witnesses and all who have provided love and kindness to our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Memorial services are scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday evening Dec. 19th at the Poulsbo Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4861 Lincoln Rd. NE, Poulsbo, Washington. Eric Knopf minister and long time friend will officiate.
