Maurice Edward Calaway
Loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend joined his beloved Loyce when he entered Heaven's gates on September 12, 2013.
Maurice was a gentile spirit, who was gracious, kind and considerate. He was born on September 10, 1921, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Dillard Edwin Calaway and Gladys Bolinger Calaway. Maurice was a 1939 graduate of Pine Bluff High School who obtained his associate degree at Arkansas Tech in 1941. He attended the University of Arkansas where his studies were briefly interrupted by World War II. The US Army drafted him, where he served as a Recruiter at the Pine Bluff Army Recruiting Station. He was honorably discharged and returned to the University of Arkansas where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi and the University of Arkansas Marching band. Subsequent to his graduation with a BS, he began his first job as a Meter Reader with Arkansas Louisiana Gas. After marrying Loyce Irene Smith, he spent the remainder of his career in sales with Natural Gas Odorizing, a subsidiary of Helmerich & Payne from which he retired in 1991.
Maurice had many passions in life including his family, traveling, and trying anything new. He also had numerous hobbies that ran the gambit from reading, particularly the works of Horatio Alger and the Wall Street Journal to sports. He adored collecting everything from antiques with Loyce to limousines and Lionel trains. Later in life he especially enjoyed spending time with friends and family in Muldoon, Texas.
