She was born on April 19, 1918 in Los Angeles, California to George and Mabel Swan and was blessed to be raised with grandparents, aunts, uncles and many cousins close by. She met her future husband, Bob at church and was married on June 30, 1939. In 1945 they moved to Rosemead, CA to raise their family and in 1968 moved again to Thousand Oaks, CA for Bob's job. Upon retirement in 1977, they moved to Foresthill, CA and remained there for 30 years. Midge moved to Newcastle in following Bob's passing.
Midge was very athletic, playing tennis, basketball and softball. She pitched for a softball team that traveled around east Los Angeles to play other teams. She continued to love sports throughout her life and eagerly waited for the start of the various sport seasons on television.
At age 12, Midge accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and patterned her life according to His will as she grew ever closer to Him. She and Bob helped build their church in Foresthill and were very active in all its programs.
In Rosemead, Midge volunteered for 10 years with the PTA and then was elected to the El Monte Union High School Board encompassing several cities. She also spent 20 years serving in many capacities with the Girl Scouts, including President of the Santa Anita Girl Scout Council in San Gabriel Valley. She received the national Girl Scout Thanks Badge, the highest award given to an adult at that time.
She was an active member of the original Todd Valley Friendship Club, the Foresthill Historical Society and served as treasurer for the monies raised to build the fire station in Todd Valley.
She loved RVing with family and friends and taking day trips to the mountains and sea shore. She treasured her TOPS Club friendships and the Christian fellowship at the First Baptist Church of Auburn.
