Mildred was born in Pulaski, Virginia on July 2, 1920. She was the daughter of Carl and Otha Lineberry. In 1938, she married her childhood sweetheart, Arko David Altizer Sr. Mildred and Arko made their home in the Guilford College area where she continued to live following Arko's passing in 2002.
Mildred's greatest joy was her family. Above all else, she cherished her role as a loving wife and mother to her two children, David and Carolyn. Over the last several years Mildred faced numerous challenges to her health with the same determination and dignity that she displayed throughout her life. It is this determination and quiet dignity along with her faith and courage that will continue to be a shining example to all that knew and loved her. The family takes great comfort in knowing that Mildred has been reunited in Heaven with her husband, Arko , and her son, David.
Mildred is survived by her devoted daughter; Carolyn Liu and husband Tony and loving grandchildren Zane David Altizer and wife Sharon, Lisa Morgan and Cindy Staley and husband Ronn. She is also survived by two precious great grandchildren; Bryce Staley (2 ½) and Olivia Staley (2 months) and many adoring nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express heart filled appreciation to Mildred's special caregivers, Virginia Young and Joyce Taylor. Special thanks are also extended to the caring and attentive physical therapy department at Blumenthal Jewish Nursing Home as well as the caring and attentive staff at Beacon Place.
