Mrs. Myrtle Greene (Greene) Bailey Shurett

December 16, 1919 - January 18, 2010
Myrtle Greene Bailey Shurett, 90, of Birmingham, and formerly of Tuscaloosa, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at St. Vincent's Hospital, in Birmingham. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. Following a private burial service at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, a memorial service will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, in Tuscaloosa, with the Revs. Ken Dunivant and Bill Bostick officiating. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, is directing.

She will be remembered by her family and friends for being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa, where she served for many years as a volunteer in the church office.

Myrt loved to dance and enjoyed the festivities of her Mardi Gras clubs, the Sybarites and Jesters. She was an outstanding bridge player and greatly enjoyed her friendships with her bridge partners in Tuscaloosa, as well as her friends in the Athenia Study Club.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Rudy and Jim Marlowe, of Dallas, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law, Ben and Mary Shurett, of Boaz, and Scott and Pam Shurett, of Hoover; sister, Margie Griffin, of Northport; grandchildren, Amy (King) Fifer, of Dallas, and Jeb Marlowe, of Austin, Texas, Brad (Kimberly) Shurett, of Scottsboro, and Will (Katie) Shurett, of Nashville, Tenn., Mary Catherine (Daniel) Burson, of Pasadena, Calif., and David Shulman, of Birmingham; three great-grandchildren, Hix and Owen Fifer, of Dallas, and Nora Marlowe, of Boston, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Rudy Bailey, of Anniston, and H.E. "Red" Shurett, of Tuscaloosa; her grandson, Miles Shurett, of Tuscaloosa; and five brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Brad Shurett, Will Shurett, Jeb Marlowe, King Fifer, Mike Griffin, and Jimmy Greene.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
