This Thursday, November 29, Nancy passed away at 7:07 pm CST. She had been ill since January 2011 when she was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. Fifty percent of the people who get this disease die within 4 months. Nancy was a fierce fighter; she lived for 22 months fighting this lethal killer. Recently, we had been encouraged by her doing above Doctor's expectations and by her being accepted to participate in a new clinical trial that held great promise.
Without warning, the toll of extended months of chemotherapy-and its accumulating toxicity-combined with the relentless march forward of the cancer sapped her strength. What she had physically been able to do before, she suddenly could no longer do. After seven days in the Intensive Care Unit, she could not recover her ability to breathe on her own. She had made plain that she did not want to be kept alive artificially and I had promised to honor that wish. When the time came, I did. Her passing was peaceful, without any pain and I held her hand until the end.
Nancy was my home, her loss is unimaginable. I will love her forever-and then some.
Friends and family will be sitting Shiva at our home (1310 N. Ritchie Court-8C) from noon to 6:00 p.m. starting Sunday, December 2nd through Tuesday, December 4th. As per Nancy's Christian Science faith traditions, a memorial service will be held in the near future and we will gather to celebrate the life of this "one of a kind" magnificent woman.
With a broken heart,
