Norman M. Peterson, 89, of Bettendorf, passed away at his home Friday July 12, 2013. A public memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday July 25, 2013, at The Runge Mortuary with visitation following the service until 4:30 PM. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial donations may be made to The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
Norman was born January 3, 1924, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Mark and Mary (Bertelsen) Peterson. He enlisted in the Army at the outbreak of World War II. Following honorable discharge he attended St. Ambrose College and the University of Iowa, graduating with a Juris Doctor degree in 1949. While at the University of Iowa he met and married his wife Dolores on September 1, 1946.
Norman moved to the Quad Cities in 1949. During a distinguished career in law, he served as Assistant Scott County Attorney, Judicial Magistrate in Bettendorf and City Attorney for the towns of LeClaire and Buffalo, Iowa. Norman had a private law practice in the area for 43 years.
Norman was a charter member of the Davenport Y's Men's Club serving as President during the hosting of the International Convention of Y's Men. He served as Scott County Chairman of Easter Seals and was a member of the Scott County Park Board during development of Scott County Park and West Lake Park.
Norman enjoyed bowhunting, fishing, golf (three holes in one), vegetable gardening, boating and traveling. With his wife Dolores he visited all 50 States and 17 foreign countries. He is fondly remembered by his children and grandchildren as well as his extended family and many friends.
