Ofir Marcos was born in Ometepe, Nicaragua on March 14, 1923. She moved to Managua, Nicaragua with her family as a young girl. She is the second child of Alonso and Ana Rodriguez. Her siblings are; Alonso, Edmundo, Gustavo, Edgar, Aura, Chepita, Ariel, Ruth, Lilliam, and Gloria. As the oldest female, Ofir was a great help to her parents in helping with her younger siblings. Ofir enjoyed music, sewing, and being creative with flowers. She always loved the colors in flowers and gardens. Eventually, she decided to move to the United States in order to find adventure and a future. Her brother, Edmundo, was already in the United States and he sponsored her. They found themselves living in San Francisco and building a new life. Ofir worked as a seamstress. She eventually met a young pianist by the name of Alfredo Marcos. Ofir fell in love with the man and his music and they were married on July of 1955. They had four children and raised them in San Francisco. They are MaryEllen, Ofir, Alfredo and Irene. The family made a move to Southern California in 1967. Ofir dedicated herself to her children, her job, and in enjoying her garden. She enjoyed music and attending her church. She was a devout Catholic who loved her faith. As her children became adults and made their lives, Ofir became the proud grandmother of Annette, Alan, Karen, Leah, Paula, Matthew, Jonathan, Joshua, Alfredo Jr., Jason and Erika. Ofir enjoyed being surrounded by her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Nothing brought her more joy than being with her family. Ofir was an inspiration of strength, dedication and loyalty. She was a presence to be reckoned with. She believed in being proper, polite, and always expected ladies to act like ladies. We have humorous stories to reflect that fact that will never be forgotten. Some of her nieces were the recipients of her finishing school advice. Ofir Marcos will be missed and what a great loss for our family. She is the matriarch of this family. She may be gone physically but will continue to be a very real presence in the lives of this family forever.
