Graveside services for Ouida Albright, 83, of Decatur will be Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home.
Mrs. Albright, who died Monday, November 23, 2009, at The Terrace at Priceville, was born August 26, 1926, in Tuscaloosa to Frank P. and Lillian Bilbro. She graduated from Jones Valley High School in Birmingham in 1946, where she was a majorette for three years and also graduated from Birmingham Southern College with a degree in Elementary Education in 1952. Ouida was a semi finalist in the Miss Alabama Pageant in 1950.
She owned and operated ABC Kindergarten in Decatur for over 15 years, and was the only kindergarten that pro>vided transportation for her students. Each of the graduating classes at the kindergarten had graduation ceremonies and were presented with diplomas. After the closing of the kindergarten, Ouida became a substitute teacher for Decatur City Schools for five years before becoming the Writing to Read Teacher at Walter Jackson Elementary School. She retired from her long career in education in 2000. She had a love for working with children, and through the years, many of her former students have come to her and thanked her for being their teacher and they share fond memories and stories of the times they spent together.
Ouida loved traveling over the Christmas holidays with her husband, Norman, and their two daughters. Alabama football was a passion of hers, and rarely did she and Norman miss a home game or a Crimson Tide Bowl Game.
Her parents preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Norman Albright; two daughters, Cerise A. Pearce (John) and Cheryl Sandlin (Joel); three grandchildren, Carrie Coleman Pearce, Laura Taylor Pearce and Norman Russell "Russ" Sandlin; and one brother, Frank Bilbro Jr.
A very heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Terrace at Priceville and to the nurses at Hospice of North Alabama for all the love and care they gave her.
