Pamela Acosta Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 6, 2012.

Pamela Jean Valentine Acosta, surrounded by family and friends and soothed as theocratic songs were sung, fell asleep in death September 4th. Pam was 55. Her solid confidence in her faith calmed Pam through these trying times and Pam's concern for others moved her to never show a negative spirit throughout her illness with ALS. Her quiet strength reassured her companions of her hope of life without end in a peaceful new world, when Isaiah said, "no resident will say they are sick."
Family: She is survived by her husband, G. Daniel Acosta. Other family members include her mother Miriam Valentine, brother's Stephen (wife JoAnn), Michael (wife Leslie) and David, along with older sister Barbara Obee (husband Dee). Pam's nieces include Cathi Heter, Laura Outsen, Anna-Maria, Melissa and Terry Dawn Valentine and nephews Dee Jr., David and Daren Obee. Also surviving is her uncle Grant Valentine of Olympia, Washington, along with cousin's Brent, Annette, Debbie, Larry, Willie and families. She was preceded in death by her father Ralph Valentine Sr. brother Ralph Jr., nephew PFC Dana Obee and Aunt Betty of Betty Spooner School of Dance.
Home and work: Pamela was born in 1956 and lived in Everett throughout her lifetime. She was both a student and a 17 year employee at Everett Community College. She is the most recent member of a family that dates employment at EVCC back to 1961, her father Ralph retiring from EVCC in 1984, and others included Grant, Stephen and Ralph. Pam was an expert in plant propagation and worked for both Mollegard's Floral and City of Everett Grounds where coincidently she met her future father-in-law, Frank Acosta. She became a part of Dan's family, including his mother, dad, sister Mary and her children Sierra and Miles.
Friendships: Pam was unusual as she maintained many life-long friendships back to her youth in Pinehurst. You often heard about: Ruth, Erick, Liz, Marguerite, Bonnie, Debbie Bright and their families. She became close to many of her sister's close friends, including Ann, Janna, Lola, and their spouses. At work Pam was a Lead, yet her care for other co-workers endeared her ones like, Tony and Barb, Connie, Marsha and numerous others including her supervisor Carla. She often looked out for those less fortunate and loved a 'cause,' even working side by side Governor Dixie Lee Ray, sandbagging an engorged Snohomish River. She enjoyed simple pleasures like a cup of tea at some quaint, out of the way restaurant, and splitting a meal with Dan at The Strawberry Patch. At the local Kingdom Hall she enjoyed the company of so many that it would be impossible to do justice to a list of you dear ones. Pam's secret was making you feel like you were the only one(s) special to her at that moment. She celebrated with ones in their joys, laughed with them when they laughed, and shared in a person's sorrow. Pam often extended herself beyond her energy level.
Creatures: To know Pam was to know her affection for God's creatures. Every week she visited the turkeys east of Conway, and they came to know her voice. At home the squirrels would come in one door at the house, take a peanut and go out the other door. Her voice would hit a high note as she showed her delight while talking to them. Even the crows came to her for feeding. The lowly stickbug creatures were her special joy, as she and Dan fed them water on the tip of a finger. Each summer Dan, Pam and Miriam would take the boat cruise to see the whales and travel to Orcas Island.
We are all richer for having Pamela in our lives. Though not perfect, she taught us so many lessons about loyal friendship. Recent months have been excruciatingly difficult for family and friends, but she would remind us that deep disappointment along with pain will be replaced with joy when there is a resurrection.
Arrangements: A viewing has been arranged for Tuesday, September 11th at Purdy and Walters on the corner of Wetmore and Pacific Avenues. Family and friends are invited to a comforting memorial talk presented Saturday, September 22nd, at 2 pm. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 1730 Madison Street in Everett. A reception with refreshments will follow at the Jackson Center at Everett Community College. Pam's husband Dan and all her family invite you to share consolation and memories Details and directions will be provided. In honor of Pam's many contributions to Everett Community College, a college scholarship has been established in her name. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the Pamela Jean Valentine Acosta Scholarship fund, through the Everett Community College Foundation.

Growing up with Pamela Valentine was always an adventure. Summers were spent swimming in the backyard pool, seeing which one of us could hold our breath under
water the longest. Fall would come and we would stage “big time” musicals for our only audience member Mike. Winters were spent playing endless games of Monopoly
and Clue. When spring came we did mud puddle jumping. Pam's dad, Ralph senior, taught us how to take thorns off rose bushes and we would run around pretending we were rhinos. Pamela, was full of love and an amazing human being. There is a special place for her in heaven.

To my sister Pam's family'
My deepest condolences to all. Although we lost our Sister at a very young age Jehovah does give us his wonderful gift of the resurrection. He also helps us through times of distress and does not give us anything we cannot endure. 1 Corinthians 10:13. So my dear family may you lean on Jehovah and know that your Brothers and Sisters will be praying for you and endure while we wait for the day of Jehovah. Much Agape. Sister Malpass.
