Paul Lamar Akridge, Jr., 81, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2011.
Mr. Akridge was born November 1, 1929 in Baker County, Georgia, was a member of the American Legion and a member of Rowland Springs Baptist Church.
Paul loved God, family and country. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Prior to and preceding his enlistment, he was active in the National Guard and the Air Force Reserve. He was proud to serve his country. During most of his life he lived and worked in the Albany, Georgia area. He was always in the automotive business, which he loved. The family moved to Marietta in 1986 and to Cartersville in 2001. He retired in 1993. After he retired he became a Master Genealogist, and spent many happy hours tracing his and other families roots back many generations. Paul was a loving and generous person, always willing to give a helping hand. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Lamar Akridge, Sr. and Rubye Mae Pierce Akridge.
Surviving is his wife, Ginger Akridge of Cartersville, children, Steve and Karan Akridge of Kennesaw, Cindy and Mike Martin of Cartersville, Trish and Bucky Schoocraft of Dallas, grandchildren, Candis Calvert, Scott Akridge, Elizabeth Barksdale, Jessica Smith, Katie Yeomans, six great grandchildren, two brothers and sisters in law, Raymond and Blanche Akridge of Albany, David and Linda Akridge of Acworth and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday , September 10, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Ringwalt officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday afternoon from 2:00-3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Disabled American Veterans.
