Paul "Pod" Anthony Manuel, 87, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013, at a care center with his family by his side.
Most people knew Paul as "Pod". He lived in Lake Charles since 1947. Pod was a Purple Heart recipient during WWII. As a veteran of the Navy he served on the USS Sangamon, which did tours in the South Pacific and the Pacific. He was considered by his family and friends to be a lively man who was a prankster, who always showed his family what it meant to be a "family man". Paul was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Manuel of Lake Charles; four sons, Harold Manuel and wife Betty, John Manuel and wife Ruth, Marlin Manuel, and Russ Manuel and wife Lori all of Lake Charles; two daughters, Melissa Mickey and husband Steve and Annette Oneillion and husband John also all of Lake Charles; one brother, J. L. Manuel and wife Ruth of Lake Charles; twelve, grandchildren; and eight, great-grandchildren.
Paul is preceded in death by his first wife, Meldress Fruge Manuel; a daughter, Floretta "Flo" Manuel Harrington; three brothers and two sisters
A celebration of his life will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013 in the chapel of Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Rev. Scott Conner will officiate. Burial will be at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2013 with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will resume 8:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
