Peggy Jean Arnold, 91, of Seattle, past peacefully at Northwest Hospital on Sat.,Jan.28,2012. Peggy was born Nov. 30,1920 at the home of her parents,Shirley M. and Mary L. Parker in Coupeville. Two years later was joined by a sister, Evelyn.Peggy attended grammar through high school in Coupeville where she graduated in 1939 as valvictorian of her class. Following graduation she moved to Seattle attending Edison Technical School. During the war years she lived and worked for room and board in West Seattle. Began corresponding with a former Coupeville grad ,Cecil Arnold(class ,34) and they were married in 1947. After their marriage they moved to Westbury, New York, where son James was born in 1950.The following year they moved back to Seattle to be closer to both families and parents of both. A second son, Steven, was born in1953. Peggy was a stay at home mom while the boys were growing up but returned to the workplace after taking courses in accounting and renewing typing skills. She worked as a temp for HUD and then full time HEW until her retirement in 1988. After 24 years of marriage Peggy and Cecil divorced. Peggy became affiliated with the Evangilical Free Church, Dorcus Society, and Bible studies. Due to failing health she moved to New Hope Adult Home in Edmonds in 2009.
Peggy was proceeded in death by her parents and sister Evelyn.She leaves sons James, in Seattle, and Steven, Sherman Oaks,CA. Nieces, Diane Eelkema (Roger), Candace Chromy Eckel (James),San Clemente,CA. Grand Niece, Lark Kesterke (Kristopher), Grand Nephews-Max Eelkema, Grant and Zachary Eckel, and a great grand nephew, Elias Kesterke.
Graveside service 2:00,Feb. 5, 2012. In lieu of flowers, or memorials may be made to the Island County Historical Society, Heart Fund, or Diabetes Fund.
