Perry Camp, 92, of Texarkana, AR passed away February 20, 2013 at his home. Mr. Camp was born September 1, 1920 in Horatio, AR. He attended school in Stamps. During World War II he served as a jeep driver in the European theatre. In May 1944 he was wounded in action in Italy and received a Purple Heart medal.
Mr. Camp came to Texarkana after the war and worked with his brother as a carpenter apprentice for four years. Carpentry became his skill and he was a member of Carpenter Union 379 for over 50 years.
Mr. Camp was a member of County Avenue Baptist Church from 1948 to present. He "surrendered" his life to the Lord there in 1948.
Perry Camp was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne Sherrod Camp. They were married in Texarkana on September 7, 1946. They were married for 62 years. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Sue and Michael Ratliff of Tyler, TX; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky H. Camp and Lana Camp of Texarkana, TX; Charles P. Camp and Judy Camp of Denton, TX; 8 granddaughters; and 8 great grandchildren.
Services will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013 at County Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Roger Copeland officiating. Burial will be in East Memorial Gardens under the direction of East Funeral Home – Downtown.
Family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Friday, February 22, 2013 at East Funeral Home – Downtown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to County Avenue Baptist Church.
