Randall Bonany Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 4, 2012.

Bonany, Randall John
Sadly we announce the passing of this bright light known as Randy Bonany "The RJ" or "RBI" to all his family and friends. This wonderful story began in Sudbury Ontario where Randy was born, shortly after his family moved to North Bay, Ontario where Randy was raised and will always be from. His passion was sports and he was an exceptional athlete and an even more passionate fan. Randy's adult life saw him join the military in 1972 and his stellar career ended in 1995 after 23 years of highly recognized service to his country. Two seperate tours with the United Nations (3RCR) was only the beginning with stops afterwards in Germany, Ottawa, Kingston, Edmonton, Victoria and eventually retired to Waterdown Ontario where he returned to civilian life as a Core Commissionaire in Hamilton. His military career was highlighted by him attaining his goal in joining the MP's where he rose to rank of Sergeant and received numerous awards. Randy was married to Dawn Marie (Buffett) in 1977 and soon after his pride and joy, his pretty "beebops" Crystal was born. Randy's adult life revolved around Crystal and the mere mention of her name brought that infectious smile to his face. Those who knew Randy knew this was a man who could be counted on, caring...compassionate and strong he was always ready to lend a hand. Later in life it was definitively clear that there was two things that mattered to Randy. The first was his daughter Crystal-Leigh and her two beautiful girls Trinity and Shayla...there could not have been a prouder Grampy! The mere mention that his two "kiddies" were coming to see him brought that bright smile to his face. The second thing was his passion for his beloved "Blue and White" the Toronto Maple Leafs....you dare not enter a conversation with him unless you were prepared to receive a verbal thrashing as to why this was the greatest team to ever lace up blades. Players, stats, records etc, he knew them all and he knew how to fix "his team". The Leafs front office would be proud. Randy is survived by his daughter Crystal and partner Eric, and their two children Trinity and Shayla. His big, "little" sister Lois, her husband Pat and their children Carolyn, Rosalyn, John and Hayley and their spouses and children, his very SPECIAL "Best Friend Forever" his brother Ross, and his younger brother Christopher and his wife Joy and their children Jason and Christa. Predeceased by his parents Patricia and Harold Bonany of North Bay.
There will be many stories told about this great man over the many years to come, stories that will make you smile, laugh and cry...knowing all the while that "The RJ" was gone too soon.
Randy, your earthly light may have been put out...but your light will live in our hearts the rest of our days and you will never be forgotten. Sleep well Daddy, Grampy, Brother, Uncle and friend...a piece of us has gone with you.

"My condolences to the Bonany family. I too have many fond memories of Randy when we were both working as MP's at CFB Edmonton in the late 80's. He was like an Uncle to us Rookies, always taking us under his wing. He later even coached our curling team in the MP spiel at CFB Borden back in 1990! I last ran into Randy in the Toronto airport in 1992/3. My husband and I were coming in from Europe and we briefly ran into Randy and Dawn!Take care my friend, never goodbye, but till we meet again....Catherine Peace (nee Hanson, aka Corporal Bubbles! I will never miss that smile on his face when me and trinity walked in his apartment and he would always call Trinity and I "Trinny Bops" and "Shayla bops" and thats one of the things i will never forget about him. He was the most amazing person I knew. I would always visit my grampy every day and he was the best person in my life and the smartest too. I just wish he was here with me now I miss you grampy. His favorite board game we would play together was "Say Anything". I miss his funny faces and all his funny jokes. Grampy helped me with my homework when mommy and daddy were at work and he was babysitting me. When I slept over grampy would make me pancakes with pemeal bacon, or "eggies" in a cup! Grampy was great at cooking but usually when he baked a cake....he would take the cake out of the oven and it would be half burnt!!! And one more thing...grampy never got to tell me the secret of how the caramilk gets into the caramilk bar! And, all this time he didn't tell me his real name was Randall! i thought it was randy! I really miss you grampy. Maybe you can come talk to me sometime before bed and say goodnight to me please. Love Shayla Bops xoxo

I miss you so much Dad. Every day my heart aches for you. I miss your hugs. I can still hear your laugh after you cracked another funny joke...and I can hear you calling out "ya bunch of bums" after the Leafs lost a game..lol! Every day I have constant reminders of you. I miss everything about you. You meant the world to Trinity, Shayla and I. We feel lost without you. I am trying to piece my life back together, and move on, the way I promised you I would. It's just so hard without you here. I know you are watching over us. I promise to make you proud. I love and miss you so much Dad. I can be at peace in knowing that you are in a much better place. No more pain, tears, or frustration. And no more going back to that terrible hospital. You were the most wonderful man I had ever known and ever will know. Truly the best Dad ever.
Love Always,
Crystal-Leigh "Beebops" xoxo
