GASTONIA - Reba "Granny" Sorrels Mecum, 86, went home to be with her Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ on Nov. 17, 2012, at her home with her loving family by her
side.
She was born in Rutherfordton and was the daughter of the late Ralph and Biddie
West Sorrels.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Mecum; three sisters; and one
brother.
Mrs. Mecum was a faithful member of East Gastonia Church of God. She was a
Sunday school teacher for 50 years. She was a loving wife, wonderful mother,
grandmother and precious Saint of God. She has run her race and kept the faith.
The family would like to give special thanks to Gaston Hospice and caregivers,
Kim, Jeannie, Lesley, Callie, Jeremy and Anita.
Mrs. Mecum is survived by her children and spouses, Gail Mecum, Wanda Kelly
(Robert), Peggy Smith (the Rev. Ted), Betty Taylor (Lewis),the Rev. Glen Mecum
(Martha); five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at East Gastonia Church
of God, 1407 Cedar Ave.,, Gastonia.
A homecoming celebration will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at East Gastonia Church of God
with the Revs. Glen Mecum, Ted Smith and Robby Kelly officiating.
Interment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hollywood Cemetery.
