Services for Richard Henry Bennett, Jr. will be 10am, Monday, March 26, 2012 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
Richard Henry Bennett, Jr. (Dick), 84, was born April 25, 1927 in Washington D.C. to Richard Henry and Mary Olga Reynolds Bennett, Sr. He had two sisters Doris and June.
Dick Bennett lost his struggle with cancer on Saturday March 17, 2012 at his home near Copperas Cove.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Melba Goodwin Bennett, sons; George Berton Bennett and Robert Lynn Bennett, daughters; Katherine Marie Doyle and Karen Sue Bennett, eight grand children and thirteen great grandchildren.
Dick entered the United States Army at 17 and served as a guard at the Nurenberg War Trials following World War II. He did three tours in Germany, one in Thailand and was in Korea during the Korean conflict. He achieved the rank of SFC and retired after twenty-two and one half years of service. After his Army service he worked for the Post Office, the Fort Hood Ammunition Accounting Office and several other jobs until he retired from Civil Service. He was a resident of the Killeen-Copperas Cove area for almost 65 years. He was a life member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the Circle C Constabulary Association.
The family will receive visitors from 6-8pm Sunday March 25, 2012 at the funeral home.
