Richard D. Holbrook, of Marblehead, MA, passed away peacefully at home on October 27, 2012. Beloved husband of Christine Holbrook. A kind and gentle parent he leaves his children, Ann (husband Michael), David (wife Jesse), and Katherine, as well as 4 grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Andrew Kirkham (wife Myong Cha), 2 nieces, 1 nephew and many cousins. Predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Ruth Holbrook, he was born and raised in Marblehead, MA. A Marblehead High School graduate, class of 1948, his education continued at Bates College and Boston University where he earned a B.S. degree. During the Korean Conflict, Dick served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He returned to attend Harvard Business School, earning an MBA, class of 1959. His professional career spanned nearly 50 years, beginning with Ludlow Corporation, Polaroid and Denison Manufacturing Company in a general management capacity and then as a Divisional President for Textron Inc. Fulfilling a life-long dream of running his own business, he founded a management consulting firm in 1983, Richard D. Holbrook & Associates, with principles in Germany and the UK, as well as the States.
Dick taught business courses as an adjunct professor at Boston University, MA, Binghamton University, NY, and at Endicott College in Beverly, MA. He was also a guest lecturer at Cornell University and served as a judge for an Entrepreneurship course.
As an ardent supporter of Marblehead, he served on the Board of trustees of Abbot Public Library and the Old Burial Hill Oversight Committee. He also enjoyed membership in the Romeo’s and the Whiting Club. He was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist, Marblehead and Boston. Throughout his life, Dick maintained a lifelong passion for singing, classical music, fly fishing, and all-things New England. He loved spending time with his children, and was overjoyed when he could take his grandchildren for ice cream. A best friend, and loyal, loving companion, he will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are kindly invited to gather for his memorial service on Saturday, November 10th at 11 am at the Eustis & Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead, MA.
