Richard J. Leinert, age 89 of Danbury, died on September 30th at Griffin Hospital, Derby. He was the husband of Emelene R. (Dubey) (Robbins) Leinert.
Richard was born November 26, 1923 in Darien, the son of the the late Frank J. and Katherine (Strehl) Leinert. Raised and educated in Darien, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Following his discharge from the service, Richard operated the Leinert Dairy in Darien until 1959 when he started Mooney Aircraft at the Danbury Airport, operating the business until the time of his retirement.
An avid pilot and a lover of aircraft, Richard owned and operated his own planes for over 50 years. He was a parishioner of Saint Joseph Church, Danbury.
In addition to his wife Emelene, Richard is survived by his four step children: Stanley Robbins and Kenny Robbins both of Danbury, Lenny Robbins of New Milford and Florence Barton of Rhode Island, 14 step grandchildren, one great step grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his first wife Joyce (Deviney) Leinert, his two sisters Theresa and Helen, and his brother Robert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday October 10th at St. Joseph Church, Danbury at 10:00am. Burial with military honors will follow in Saint Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
