Richard Lee (Richie) Patterson, 39, of Stone Mountain passed away Tuesday, August 12. Mr. Patterson was born in DeKalb County on August 24, 1974 and lived in the area all of his life. As a result of congenital heart defects, he spent much of his childhood at Egleston Children’s Hospital where he endeared himself to other patients and the medical staff. After many surgical procedures, he became the third pediatric recipient of a heart transplant at the age of 14 on December 7, 1988. He and his family and friends were blessed with nearly 26 additional years of life thanks to a caring donor family. He was predeceased in death by his step-father, John Brett. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Patterson of Stone Mountain, his mother Kay Gardener Brett of Dunwoody, his father and step-mother, Ronnie and Kay Patterson of Buford, his sister and her husband, Mary and Kent King of Cumming, step-brother, Ryan Mooney of Denver, CO, step-sister, Kim Venti of Roswell, and his grandmother, Emelyn Sexton of Lithonia. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Tucker, 5073 Lavista Rd, Tucker, 30084 on Sunday, August 17. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 2 PM followed by the service at 3 PM.
