Richard G. Silvestri, 72, of Wenscott Lane, North Providence, passed away January 1, 2013 after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Giacomo and Clara (Tomasso) Silvestri; husband of Grace A. (Vicario) Silvestri, with whom he would have shared their 50th wedding anniversary in May; father of Carol-Ann Silvestri, Richard M. Silvestri, and Paul Silvestri and his wife Dana; grandfather of David and Lillian Saran and Giacomo Silvestri; brother of John E. Silvestri and his wife Virginia, Robert A. Silvestri and his wife Patricia and Thomas M. Silvestri.
Richard worked as an accountant and comptroller before retiring. He was a 1957 graduate of Classical High School and a 1961 graduate of Providence College. He was a member of the Sons of Italy and volunteered at the St. Edward Food and Wellness Center. As a communicant of St. Anthony Church, he also served as an usher, Eucharistic minister and member of the finance committee. He was also an avid tennis player and sports fan with a devotion to the Boston Red Sox, Bruins and New England Patriots.
Visitation will be held Friday, 4-8 p.m. with a funeral on Saturday at 10 a.m. from the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence, followed by burial in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
