Richard A. Smith was born Jan 1, 1934 in Chehalis, WA. He graduated in 1952 in Mossyrock, WA, and joined the US Army. He served in the Korean Conflict as an MP. Richard married Carole Mooney in Seattle in 1957.
Richard and Carole moved to Bremerton in 1959, and he worked at PSNS for 36 years. He retired as a Painter Foreman in 1989. He then worked for another 21 years at Rolling Hills Golf Course.
Richard enjoyed his lake property at Wildberry Lake, golfing, NASCAR Races, the Mariners, and the UW Huskies. He also enjoyed coaching the Sheridan Park Pee Wees in the 60s & 70s. Richard was an active member of Elks Lodge 1181.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carole; 4 sons, Dan (Desi), Paul (Tina), Ron, and Gary (Melissa); 3 granddaughters, Lindsay Dobbins (Peter), Stephanie Smith, and Alyssa Smith; grandson, Zachary Smith; great-granddaughter, Maddison; and a sister, Shirley Converse of Seattle.
Services for Richard will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A reception will follow from 1:00 to 3:00 at the Elks Lodge 1181 on Pine Rd in Bremerton.
Memorial donations may be made to the Elks Lodge or Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma.
