July 5, 1912 – April 2, 2013
After a long life filled with health and happiness Robert Campbell Lane (Cam) passed on during the night of April 2, 2013. Cam was predeceased by his beloved wife Marjorie. Left to cherish his memory are his children Catherine (Patrick McGuire), Robert (Clare White) and Ann Marie (Harry Simms). He was a devoted grandfather to Alison (Leigh Miller) and Emily McGuire, Sarah and Benjamin Simms and Philippa Lane and a great grandfather to Charlotte Miller. Cam also leaves his brother Winston Lane (Dee) and his sister Alison Pentland (the late Ernie). He was predeceased by his brother Alan Lane (Corky). Cam's life spanned many decades and included military service in both WWII and the Korean War. Upon retirement from the army he earned a degree in teaching and enjoyed a second career as a vice principal at Hillcrest High School. He was quite adept at construction and was a builder and fixer of many things particularly at his beloved cottage. Cam was a long time member at the Ottawa Hunt Club and was an avid and skilled curler. He took up golf late in life to help fill the offseason. "The quiet constancy of your gentleness drew no attention to itself yet filled our home with a climate of kindness where each mind felt free to seek its own direction." The family would like to thank the staff at the Perley Rideau Veterans' Health Centre for their care and compassion during the last years of his life. The family will receive friends at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road (at Albion Road) on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 2-5 pm.
