On October 25, 2011, Robert Lee Baucom Sr. former resident of Kansas City, KS peacefully passed away in Palm Harbor, FL at Bay Tree Skilled Nursing Facility.
Robert "Bob" Baucom was born on February 5, 1927. He was one of eight children born to the late Joseph and Leona (Higgins) Baucom.
He graduated from Sumner High School in 1945. He served in the United States Army, during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge.
He married his lifetime sweetheart Myra (Cole) in 1955 and shortly afterwards worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a Railway Mail Clerk. He worked for Don Sewing Realty Company for four years before branching out with his own business. He founded and directed Bob Baucom & Associates Realty Company for 35 years. He paved the way for many families and entrepreneurs to own their homes and businesses. In 1978 he was designated the VA Property Manager for Wyandotte County KS.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, NE Optimist Club, National Association of Realtors, Jack & Jill of America, Officer of the Dads Club, Board Member of the KCKS Economic Development Group, Sponsor of numerous youth softball teams, and member of various social clubs.
Bobby lived a full and happy life. He loved music, dancing and renovating. He loved fishing, boating and hunting. He was a world traveler and was made an honorary chief of Ola Village in Nigeria, Africa in 1987. Bob and Myra retired to the Lake of the Ozarks in Edwards, MO., where he continued to be the life of the party, entertaining family and friends..
Mr. Baucom is survived by Myra, his loving wife of 56 years, three children: Gail of Clearwater, FL, Robert Jr. and wife Elsie of Lake Mary, FL and JoLynn of Palm Harbor, FL, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 sister Lucille Burt of Kansas City, MO and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws.
Bob was beloved by all, and will be sorely missed by his family, friends and community. He touched the lives of many people with his smile, charm, generosity and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.
