Robert David Austin Jr., 88, of Winston-Salem, died Monday (1/4/2010) at Salemtowne Health Care. Born in Forsyth County, Mr. Austin was a Design Engineer with Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, California for over twenty six years and retired from Fairchild Industrial Products in Winston-Salem after ten years. He received an AS Degree in Engineering from NC State. Mr. Austin was an active member of the College Park Baptist Church where he was a member of the Davis Sunday School Class and enjoyed his family, reading and his computer.
Mr. Austin was preceded in death by his parents Robert David and Ila (Morris) Austin Sr. Surviving family includes his loving wife of forty years Ruth Greene Austin; daughters Lynn Diebold and Carolyn Haynes; son Robert David Austin III; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sister Hilda Austin Highfill; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a Graveside Committal Service on Thursday (1/7) 10:00 AM at Forsyth Memorial Park. A Memorial Funeral Service, celebrating his life, will be conducted on Thursday 11:00 AM at the College Park Baptist Church, 1701 Polo Road, Winston-Salem 27106 (336-768-5870) with a Reception to follow at the church. Family and friends will gather on Wednesday (today) from 5:00 to7:00 PM at the Vogler & Sons Funeral Home 2951 Reynolda Road (336-722-6106).
