Robert "Bob" Joseph Cristina entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 3, 2012. He was born in Kenner, LA in 1919 to the late Ethel Rinderle and Salvador T. "Buck" Cristina. He attended Loyola University and served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II as a C-47 pilot in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was awarded the Silver Star for courage under fire when his aircraft was disabled while dropping British paratroopers in Sicily. He was also awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in that action. He returned to Kenner after the war, later moving to Harahan and continued in the family ice business while enjoying his life-long passion for woodworking and golf as a member of Colonial Golf and Country Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Willa Sloan Cristina. He was preceded in death by siblings, Lawrence, Salvador T. Jr., Mildred Lacour and Ethel Fletcher. He is survived by his siblings Calvin Cristina, June Mince, Joy Romig and Jane Stoulig. He is survived by three daughters: Janis Casteix (Lane), Gina Cristina and Beth Cristina Artigues (Sid), two grandsons, Heath Casteix (Sue) and Ryan Casteix (Cherie), four great grandkids and two great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Vicki Morse (John), Nancy Krieg (Steve), Janna Clark (Carol), Julie Johns and Paul Spencer and step-grandchildren Kristi, Robin, Errin, Eric (Rachael), Robert, Tyler and Nicolette. Also survived by business partners, Kenny Cristina and David Romig, plus other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service to be held Monday, October 8, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations made in memory of Robert J. Cristina to The National World War II Museum at www.nationalww2museum.org
