Robert (Pete) Thurman Fox, age 90, former resident of High Point, passed away peacefully at Forsyth Hospital in Winston Salem on July 27, 2013.
Thurman was born April 4, 1923 in High Point to the late Robert and Grace Murphy Fox. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his stepfather, Robert Morris Kelly and two sisters, Lois Holger and Mary Koustrup, and a sister-in-law, Frances Berridge. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Juanita T Fox, his daughter Beverly, and son-in-law Edward Magness of Winston Salem. He is also survived by several nieces and a nephew.
Thurman was educated in the High Point local schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. He began his 40 year career with BF Goodrich as a the manager of the High Point store and later worked in Charlotte as a supervisor for the Charlotte zone before moving to Atlanta in 1971 to become district manager. While living in High Point he was a member of Christ's Community Church (First Reformed) where he served as chairman of the Finance Committee. He was also a member of the High Point Lion's Club where he was a former chairman of the Broom sales and a former Grand Marshall of the High Point Merchants Christmas Parade.
When his health began to fail he and his wife moved from Atlanta to Winston Salem to be closer to his daughter and son-in-law. Thurman loved his family, Golf, the Atlanta Braves, and he will be sorely missed.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a. in the Chapel of Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point by Reverend Bill Hare and Dr. James Summey. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:30 am prior to the service.
