Dr. Robert A. Kostka, "Prominent Podiatrist/Surgeon" passed away at age 84 at his Clearwater home on Aug. 23rd. Dr. Kostka moved to Clearwater in the early 70's with wife Elizabeth, and enjoyed a successful practice on Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. for 36 years. During this time, he was a member of Light of Christ Catholic Church, participated in a number of Civic Organizations, and was a member of Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club.
A native of Weirton, WV, Dr. Kostka was a decorated veteran of the Korean War. He served as Army Staff Sergeant-101st Airborne. He was awarded 2 Purple Hearts and 3 Bronze Stars for his valor.
Early in his professional career, Dr. Kostka was employed by Continental Can Co. of Cleveland, OH. During this time he met Elizabeth Kostka (nee Rosato) of Pittsburgh, PA. Together they owned/operated a dry cleaning/laundramat business, while he attended the Ohio School of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland. He served as President of the Class of 1971. Following they moved to Clearwater, FL and established residency and a practice including Comfort Shoes of Clearwater that drew many and created lifelong friends.
Dr. Kostka is survived by beloved wife of 52 years, Elizabeth. He is pre-deceased by his parents Andrew and Katherine Kostka, brother Walter all of Weirton, WV and sister Sylvia Vulcanoff of Clearwater, FL.....and beloved pet Bino II.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital www.st.jude.org or Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine www.kent.edu/cpm." Family will receive friends Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 with a vigil service at 7 all at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday 10 am at Light of Christ Catholic Church. May Dr. Kostka Memory Be Eternal!. My sympathy to you Bette. The good Dr fitted me with Orthodics on number of occasions in the 70's when I was in high school and college. He was was the best!. Both of your personalities and friendship have not been forgotten.
