Robert Lessard, age 84, died Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.
Robert was born December 26, 1929 in Winter, WI, the son of Wilfred and Mildred (Sundberg) Lessard. He was raised in Hayward and graduated from Hayward High School in 1948 after which he joined the US Army. Later he became a member of the US Air Force and was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, LA where he met his bride of 61 years, Connie Mae Wright
During his lifetime, Bob had a variety of jobs. He and his brother, Chuck, spent most of this time building the Lessard Brothers Trucking and Sand Mining Company in Indiana. He retired from this in 1998 and moved back to Hayward. He and Connie bought the Four Seasons News. They retired from this venture when health issues arose. Bob was a governor of the Hayward Moose Lodge and represented the Town of Hayward on the Sawyer County Board.
Bob is survived by his wife Connie; four children, Robert Russell Lessard, Robyn (Mike) Shattuck, Richard Lessard, and Rhonda (Phil) Novak; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; siblings Charles (Carol) Lessard and Patti (Don) Moseley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00, Saturday, March 8 at the Hayward United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Fahs officiating. There will be a visitation on hour prior to the service at the Church. Honorary urn bearers will be Brian Lessard, Bobby Lessard, Ryan Lessard, Steven Novak, David Shattuck and Matt Shattuck. Burial will be in the Hayward Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
