Robert E. Spencer, 89, of Luthersburg, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013 at his home.
Born on July 16, 1923 in Chestnut Grove, he was the son of the late Bert and Stella(Matthews) Spencer. On April 9, 1946 he married Irene (Hallowell) Spencer, who passed away on October 2, 1998.
He was a graduate of Reynoldsville High School and California State Teachers College. He served during WWII in the Signal Corps and was award three bronze stars and the good conduct medal.
Robert was a farmer and worked for B&O Railroad as an electrician. He was affiliated with Temple Baptist, Church of the Brethren and Bible Fellowship. He served as an interim-pastor, deacon and taught Sunday School.
He is survived by his four children: Sharon and her husband Robert Patton of Grampian, Randy and his wife Lynn Spencer of Virginia, Alan and his wife Becky of Luthersburg and Brian and his wife Linda Spencer of Falls Creek; he is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a grandson, Steve Patton and step grandson, Jamie Miles, two brothers: Vern and Alan Spencer and a sister Betty Johnson.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the Bible Fellowship Church: 6706 Chestnut Grove Hwy, Luthersburg, PA 15848, with his two sons officiating: Pastor Brian Spencer and Dr. Randy Spencer, Pastor Kevin Beard of Bible Fellowship Church will be co-officiating. Interment will be in Morningside Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Friday, June 28, from 7:00-9:00PM at the Mohney Yargar Funeral Chapel, Inc., an additional hour of viewing will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 29, at the Bible Fellowship Church.
