In Memory of

Roberta S. Kendall

November 13, 1922 - May 8, 2011
KENDALL Roberta Sayre, daughter of the late Nelle and Grover Sayre of the Woodland area in Duluth, MN and loving wife of the late Ralph W. Kendall of Punta Gorda; Roberta went home to her Lord on Mothers' Day, May 8, 2011. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at Emeritus at Bayside Assisted Living Facility after spending seven years battling many health issues while under the loving care of the nursing and care staff there. Born in Rosemont, CO on Nov 13, 1922, Roberta graduated from Duluth Central High School in the class of 1941. During WW II she moved to Washington, DC where she met her future husband, Ralph. After the war they settled in Lexington, KY where they raised two sons, Ralph Jr. and David Wayne. During her years in Lexington, she was a soloist at Calvary Baptist Church and Second Presbyterian Church before becoming the Choir Director at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. Her voice was compared to a soaring Lark and will continue to be heard in the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege of hearing her. Helping many, many couples celebrate their wedding vows as a soloist, her musicianship and personal beliefs and love of her Lord, as expressed through her senior and junior choirs brought fulfillment and joy to those who worshiped with her over the years. Also a very talented artist who liked to work in pencil and chalk, she shared her artwork in the classrooms inspiring children to open their minds by expressing their thoughts and experiences in stories and art. She was a member of Civitan and Daughters of the American Revolution. Roberta "retired" with Ralph to Punta Gorda, FL, where she and Ralph survived the horrific hurricane Charlie in 2004, but their condominium and many of their other properties were destroyed. She and Ralph were then relocated to Saint Petersburg, FL. She and Ralph celebrated sixty-four years of marriage. In addition to her two sons, Roberta is survived by daughter-in-law Pat Klein-Kendall; two grandsons and their families, Stuart, Vanessa, and Lucie Kendall of Oakland, CA, and Matthew, Poppy, Sayre, and Sidney Kendall of Clarksburg, MD; sister-in-law, Coletta Sayre, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Joyce Kendall of Florida, friend and caregiver, Jeffrey Trammell, and many nieces and nephews. A service is being planned for Roberta's family sometime in the next three months. The family requests no flowers but donations of thanks and remembrance may be made to the Suncoast Hospice Foundation at https://www.thehospicefoundation.org/SSLPage.aspx?pid=184
