Rowena "Rene" Bascombe passed away peacefully on Monday, August 6, 2012 at the Benedictine Living Community of Spooner.
She was born October 21, 1914 to Harvey and Pearl (Fox) Phinn in Ottercreek, Dunn County where she spent her young life. She wed George Bascombe on May 9, 1936 where they made their first home together in Wheeler. They moved to Spooner for 8 years then spent 50 years in Waukesha, WI. and then moved back to Spooner where she remained until her death.
Rowena loved to dance (Polka) and listen to Country & Gospel Music. She was unable to read music but able to play by ear. She continued to dance throughout her remaining years. She also loved to can, bake and cook in her younger days. She loved baseball and the Milwaukee Brewers were her favorite team.
Survivors are her sons, Larry (Joyce) Bascombe of Spooner, WI, and Ronald (Sandy) Bascombe of Virginia; her sister, Dorothy Phinn Christner of Rice Lake; grandchildren, Terri (Mark) Stofferahn, Randy (Kim) Bascombe, Connie (Rich) Boren, Theresa Fulcher and Bobby Dail; great grandchildren, Justin and Brandon Stofferahn, Sara Baldwin, and Scott and Karolina Boren; 6 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services for Rowena Bascombe were held at 11 am on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Dahl Funeral Home with Pastor Jack Starr officiating. Visitation was from 10 – 11 am prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Inurnment was in the Greendale Cemetery.
