Russell Keith Leslie, 82, of Greencastle, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 after a battle with lung cancer.
He was born on January 7, 1931 in Greencastle to Albert (Bert) and Catherine Yankey Leslie.
He attended Greencastle Schools and was a graduate of the United States Armed Forces Institute. He attended Lains Business College in Indianapolis majoring in Accounting and Business Administration. He was a member of the Phi Theta Pi International Honorary Fraternity.
Mr. Leslie retired from the United States Army on April 30, 1977 with 24 years of service. He served in Bracone, France; Heilbronn, Germany, and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam.
Russell earned the Meritorious Service Medal, three Bronze Stars, three Army Commendation Medals, National Defense Medal and numerous other awards and letters of commendation.
Mr. Leslie also worked at Black Lumber Company in Greencastle for 7 years as Bookkeeper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Hildegarde Weaver and Doris Jean Dickey; and one brother, Donald E. Leslie.
Surviving are one sister, Mable Bowen of Hobart, IN, a brother, Glenford H. Leslie of Greencastle and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 11 A.M. at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, with Chaplain Steve Williams officiating. Interment with Honors will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
