Ruth E. Armstrong
Miss Armstrong, 85, of Charlotte, NC, died early Thursday morning, July 28, 2011.
She was born December 5, 1925 in Charlotte, North Carolina, one of seven children to the late Joseph William Armstrong and Vernie Stanford Armstrong. Miss Armstrong was a 1944 graduate of Central High School and had served as City Clerk for the City of Charlotte for 28 years. She was an active member of Craig Avenue Tabernacle ARP Church and tirelessly volunteered for numerous organizations in the area. She was an active member of Charlotte Mecklenburg Retiree Association.
The Armstrong family will greet friends from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Craig Avenue Tabernacle ARP Church. A service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 PM in the sanctuary with The Reverend Dr. Nathan M. Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot of historical Elmwood Cemetery.
Miss Armstrong is survived by two sisters, Martha Berry and Evelyn Mitchum both of Charlotte, NC and two sister-in-laws, Ann Armstrong and Nellie Armstrong of Charlotte, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister and brothers: Betty A. Hannah, Joseph Armstrong, Sidney Armstrong and Charles Armstrong.
The family would like to thank the staff of Sharon Village, Dickson ICU Heart Unit and White Oak Manor for all of their wonderful care.
