Sadie (Chataignier) Betar

NEW IBERIA – Funeral Services will be conducted for Mrs. Richard G. Betar, the former Sadie Chataignier, age 84, at 10:00 am Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Fr. Steve LeBlanc officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday with a Rosary at 6:30 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Saturday until service time.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Chataignier passed away at 8:40 pm on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Abbeville General Hospital.

Mrs. Betar was a wonderful, loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She was known throughout Louisiana for her delicious pralines. She could move through her kitchen with such ease making dozens of pralines to sell to area restaurants and gift shops, including, The Shadows on the Teche, Konriko Store and Tobasco Store. Her greatest joy was taking care of her husband, daughters and granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Richard G. Betar of New Iberia; two daughters, Linda B. Breaux and her husband Lee of New Iberia and Betsy B. Hebert and her husband Hodgie of Lafayette; one granddaughter, Genee' Nicole Hebert of Lafayette; one brother, Alton Chataignier and his wife Delta of New Iberia and one sister, Mable C. Broussard of New Iberia and four nephews, Neil Chataignier and wife Andre'; Link Chataignier and Jude Chataignier and wife Connie R. all of New Iberia and Bryant Chataignier and wife Cindy of Youngsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Soligny and Elvidge Boudreaux Chataignier; one brother, Allen Chataignier; one sister, Lona Chataignier and her brother in law, Alvee Broussard.
