Sally Osborne Talcott died peacefully at Vicars Landing, Ponte Vedra Beach Florida on November 13, 2013 after ninety-two extraordinarily healthy and happy years. She was born on March 13, 1921 in Jacksonville and lived there her entire life until moving to enjoy community retirement life at Vicars Landing in 2005. Her husband, Jess Wingert Talcott, preceded her in death after forty-seven years of a marriage most blessed. She was the daughter of H. Plant and Nancy Cooper Osborne.
She was preceded in death by her three siblings, Nancy Osborne Bennett (Bill), Betty Osborne, and Buck Osborne (Blandie). She graduated from Duke University '42 and the University of Florida before becoming an educator as a teacher and principal of John N.C. Stockton School. She was a lifelong member of St. Marks Episcopal Church where she served as a member of the Alter Guild. She was a member of Timuquana Country Club, The National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of Florida, and the Junior League of Jacksonville. She was devoted, giving, and loving to her family and many friends, was a truly gracious hostess, golfer, traveler, avid reader and bridge player. For over seventy consecutive years she was a member of "The Wednesday Club", a unique luncheon group of loyal friends. She is survived by her daughter Cinder Talcott Shay, son Bruce W. Talcott, three grandchildren Corey Shay (Jamie), Holden Shay, Jessica Shay Henrikson (Alan), three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery (gate 5) at 11am on Monday, November 18. A celebration of Sally's life will follow at 12pm, St. Marks Episcopal Church, 4129 Oxford Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32210. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her memory to St. Mark's Episcopal Church or Day School, Vicars Landing Scholarship Fund, or Community Hospice of N.E. Florida.
