Miss Sally Ann Williams, age 59, passed away Wednesday November 27, 2013 at Autumn Care of Marshville following a long courageous battle with breast cancer.
Sally was well known in her community as an advocate for children. She spent the last 26 years as a child care director with the last 15 years being at Wingate Baptist Church and had recently served on the board of the Union County Smart Start, Sally also served as Co-Chair of the Union County Childcare Director Association and was on the More at 4 committee. She was an active member of Wingate Baptist Church where she served on many committees and was the Adult Ministries Coordinator. If you were a friend of Sally's, you knew she had a passion for people, especially children and senior citizens! She loved the mountains and had dreamed of retiring there. Now her dream will come true as her ashes will be scattered in the North Carolina Mountains of West Jefferson.
She was the daughter of Mr. Blackie Williams and the late Mrs. Lucille Curry Williams. In addition to her mother, she was also preceded in death by her grandparents: Anna and William Curry and John and Bryte Williams; one great nephew: Zyler McNabb; one brother-in-law: Wade Broome; one Aunt: Sadie Williams; one uncle: Ralph Williams; one step-sister: Marti Dixon.
In addition to her father: Miss Williams is survived by her step-mother: Nancy Dixon Williams; two sisters: Anna (Tootie) Broome and Susan Williams; one step-brother: David Dixon: three nephews: Danny Mills, Mike Mills and wife Sandy, Bill Williams and wife Danielle; two nieces: Blake Blackman and husband Jason, Maribeth Suarez and husband Antonio; four great nephews: Colton Mills, Jonathon Mills, Noah McNabb, and Austin Williams; Great nieces: Ellie and Alexandria Saurez, Jessica Hunter and husband Dylan, Justine Williams and Harper Williams, and Ivy Baucom. Sally is also survived by her cousins: Margaret Crot and Lynn Haubert.
Memorial funeral services to celebrate the life of Miss Williams will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday December 15, 2013 in the Wingate Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Derrill Smith and Rev. Britt Hadley, with a reception immediately following.
Per Sally's personal request, the family asks that those attending the Memorial Service wear bright colored clothing.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Wingate Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 339, Wingate, NC 28174.
The family would like to thank the staff of Autumn Care of Marshville, who had become their extended family, for the tender care given to her.
