Scott Hamilton Searcy, Sr., family man, novice gardener and avid bulldog fan, died on Wednesday, September 4, 2013.
Scott was born Tuesday, September 11, 1934 to Agnes Virginia Scott Searcy and Daniel Bartlett Searcy, Sr. He was the youngest of three; sister, Leila Searcy Fortune Bell, and brother, Daniel Bartlett Searcy, Jr. He is predeceased by his parents.
After attending The University of the South and graduating from the University of Georgia, he immediately enlisted in the Army. On May 8, 1957 he married his sweetheart, Mary Louise Collins. Scott and Mary raised their children; Patti, Cherie (John) and Scottie (Ann), in Griffin. Grandchildren include Mary Bay Flanagan, Wesley Flanagan, Jesse Piland, Hamilton Searcy, Wells Searcy and a great granddaughter, Camilla Mullis.
Scott tried his hand at a variety of professions which included cattle rancher, builder, realtor, insurance agent and retailer (Scottie's Liquor Store), but he is most fondly remembered by his children and grandchildren as a champion hole digger on any beach.
In addition to serving as a City Commissioner, he held leadership roles in numerous organizations, most notably the Griffin Chamber of Commerce, Exchange Club, Griffin Board of Realtors, Jaycees, Kiwanis and St. George's Episcopal Church Vestry. In later years, he joined the Griffin Rotary Club and became a proud Paul Harris Fellow. He was especially pleased and humbled to have a role as co-founder of the Five Loaves & Two Fish Food Pantry. Scott treasured hosting his annual Christmas Eve party and was known for his world-famous eggnog. He could always find a western or war movie on television, would spend countless hours working in his yard and loved to share a cold beer with old friends at The Deck Club. Most importantly, he perfected the role of husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
The family would like to thank the caring people at Griffin Christian Ministries.
