Selma Ash died peacefully at home on July 22nd, a few weeks after celebrating her 90th birthday. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank Ash.
Selma was born Selma Victoria Finch in Stamford Connecticut on June 24, 1922 to Robert and Jennie (Hagstrom) Finch. In 1927 the family moved to Irvine Road in Old Greenwich. Selma was the middle child of 7: Margie Main, Victor Finch, Dot Jones, Ralph Finch, Bob Finch, and Charlie Finch. Selma lived in Old Greenwich until 2008 when she moved to Hill House Senior Residence in Riverside.
Selma attended Greenwich Public Schools. In 1943 she graduated from the Nursing School at Greenwich Hospital. She joined the Army and served as a nurse on military bases in Florida and Louisiana as a Second Lieutenant. After the war she married Frank and raised 3 children - Chris Ash, Fran Gerrior and Cindy Strait - happily on Park Avenue.
She will be dearly missed for her loving generosity, her passion for games (cards and baseball), and her utilitarian approach, as well as her sense of fair play, and wise counsel, by her daughters, her sons-in-law Dan George, Charlie Gerrior, Sr, and Don Strait, also her grandchildren Jennifer Kefalas, Danielle Gerrior, Charlie Gerrior, Jr, Chris Strait and Emily Strait; her great grandchildren Ryan and Emma Kefalas; and many extended family and friends and her dear friends, Audrey Schilling and Estelle Wray.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich.
