Shirley Virginia Ambrose was born on April 27, 1920 in Lansing, Michigan to parents Louis and Virginia Andrews. Shirley graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1942 and then taught high school home economics in Clare, Michigan.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 25 years, Alton D. Ambrose in 1968. She is survived by her five sons: Richard (Jane) of Boca Raton, FL, Don of Solana Beach, CA, Bruce (Diane) of Santa Clarita, CA, Bill (JoEllen) of Andover, MN and Dave (Gloria) of Okemos, MI; her fourteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Shirley was a life-long member of Central United Methodist Church in Lansing where she was baptized and married. Her faith and Church community guided her on life's path. She was an active volunteer at her church and volunteered for over forty-five years for the Sparrow Hospital Auxiliary. She was a Life Member of Sparrow's Women's Hospital Association.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 26, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 215 N. Capitol Ave., Lansing, MI, 48933. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ron Brooks officiating. A private family interment will take place later in the afternoon at East Lawn Memorial Gardens.
