Marengo - Jim Archer, 77, of Marengo died Thursday, August 25, 2011 at his home.
He was born June 8, 1934 in Harvey, Illinois to Stanley A. Archer and Gertrude (Hackenbroch) Archer. On December 2, 1961 he married Melodie L. Trost in Marengo.
He graduated from Purdue University in 1957 and shared ownership of Marengo Steel Products, Inc. for many years. He enjoyed
spending time with his family and friends, following all types of sports, dancing, swimming, gardening, and collecting antiques.
He is survived by his wife, Melodie, his daughter, Beth Archer, stepchildren Marleen Gibson and Wayne (Theresa) Zierer, a step-granddaughter, Jasmine Gibson and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, his parents, two sisters and an infant brother.
Visitation will be from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday, August 28 at Zion Lutheran Church, 408 Jackson St., Marengo.
Visitation will continue at 10am until the 11am funeral service on Monday, August 29 at the church.
Interment will be in Marengo City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Heartland Hospice, or McHenry County Historical Society.
