Stephen Michael Cooney

Stephen M. Cooney, age 54, died Wednesday February 16, 2011. He was born May 9, 1956 in Menominee, MI to Ron and Nancy Cooney. Steve was a graduate of Menominee High School and served in the United States Army from 1974-1976 as an MP. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1983.
Steve was married on December 23, 1977 to Maureen Kimberly Lauerman. He worked for General Motors for 32 years. Steve enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, hunting and watching his beloved Green Bay Packers. Steve was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife; children, Brittany, Ryan, Erin (Ben) Johnston, Lauren and his dog Jake; mother Nancy Cooney; four sisters, Michele (Don) Bangert, Teresa (Rick) Roeder, Kathy (Mark) Bayerl, Maureen (Dan) Hass, and their families. He was preceded in death by his father Rolland Cooney, brother-in-law James Lange Lauerman, Jr., and niece Samantha Bangert.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 21, 2011 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 955 Alton Road, East Lansing.
