Sybil Kathleen (McAuley) Hawk passed away in Bremerton on Dec. 7, 2012 at the age of 89. Born Sept. 9, 1923 in Shrewsbury, England, Sybil was the daughter of Cyril Edward and Edith (Beer) Jones.
Sybil married Delbert McAuley March 4, 1944 in England. They moved to Bremerton and had two sons, Carlin and Vincent. Delbert passed away in 1971. She married Robert Hawk on Nov. 6, 1983 in Las Vegas. They were married 10 years before he passed away in 1993.
Sybil was employed by the Bremerton School District for many years, but her first love was always her family. A woman of great energy and passion, she enjoyed knitting, Tai Chi, British Club, gardening, baking, and anything but sitting down.
Sybil was also preceded in death by her son, Vincent, in 2011; her siblings in England, Vincent and Doreen; and her long-time companion, Edwin Okerman. Treasuring her memory are her son, Carlin McAuley (Ginny) of Bremerton; daughter-in-law, Cheryl McAuley of Bremerton; grandsons, Jason (Cathy), Jeffrey, and Philip, all of Kitsap County; great-granddaughters, Camryn and Hailey; members of the British Club; good neighbors; many nieces and nephews in England.
A celebration of Sybil's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at Peace Lutheran Church, 1234 NE Riddell Rd, Bremerton. She will be laid to rest at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
