OBITUARY of TEDDY EDWARD SLAPE
Teddy passed away peacefully on March 18 with his wife Jo Ann (Ritter) and daughter Tracey Flaherty by his side.
Born on September 2, 1934 he lived in Ontario until his teen-age years. At the death of his mother he moved to Upland to live with his maternal grandparents. He worked at Pete Benton's Service Station through his high school years graduating from Chaffey High School in 1952. Ted worked at Cochran and Nichols after school and continued on until 1957 when he was drafted into the U S Army. Upon discharge, Ted returned to Cochran and Nichols until 1961 when he was hired by Leininger and Short, working there for 20 years. During this time Ted was also partners with his grandfather and uncle in Lenard Smith & Company Security, which they started in 1953. In 1981 Ted left Leininger and Short to start his own company naming it American Tire Service. He retired in 1997 from the tire company and 2001 from the Security business.
Ted loved traveling, camping, fishing and genealogy and spent many hours with his family and friends sharing these hobbies. Ted served 2 two missions with his wife Jo Ann in the South Dakota Rapid City Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The first at 6th Crossing for six months and the second at Martin's Cove for eighteen months.
Ted was preceded in death by a daughter Deborah Ruth, and parents Roy Sidney and Winnie Fern.
Ted is survived by his wife Jo Ann (Ritter); four children Stephanie Smith (Steven), Craig Slape (Cindy), Tracey Flaherty (John), and Kevin Slape (Rachel); grandchildren, Cassandra Eccles (Jared), Shaun Smith (Veronica), Chad and Corey Border, Kaelin, Karlie and Connor Slape; and great grandchildren Madison, Sonja, Quinnton and Charlotte Eccles, Sebastien Smith and many friends.
The last week of Ted's sojourn here on earth were spent with his complete family and many friends close by reliving events of the past by sharing stories and looking at pictures of their many adventures together.
Funeral arrangements were made through Stone Funeral Home in Upland, California. Ted was interred at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California
