YAKIMA - On April 20, 2014 Theodore James "Ted" Flynn peacefully passed away at Yakima Regional Medical Center at the age of 80, knowing he was loved and cared for by his family.
Ted was born to Dallas and Sonora Jane (Jane) Flynn on May 14, 1933. He attended school in Yakima and joined the Marine Corps after that in 1950. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War and survived being a prisoner of war during his service there. He returned to civilian life and wed Joyce Ross, with whom he had two children.
Ted led a rich and varied life, never content to settle down to just one thing. He was a cook, he worked at Weisfields Jewelers, and for Talcott music. He loved music, and was a musician himself. In his free time he enjoyed playing and recording music at home, and his children remember how exciting it was to use their dad's recording equipment when they visited him.
While his family best remembers his musicianship many in the valley remember Ted best as "Cadillac Ted," proud owner of the only Cadillac Cab Company in the state of Washington - The Cadillac Ted Cab Co. While it was only for a brief time in his life he is well remembered by many for his jovial personality and excellent customer care, and many an arrival to the Yakima Airport remember the distinctive cab and driver.
Ted was accomplished at billiards, and always enjoyed socializing and the company of others. He was also very interested in sports, and avidly followed sporting events and stats.
He is survived by his brother George (Geri) Flynn, his sister Sheila (Bob) Meyer, his daughter Michelle Flynn, his son Kelly (Stephanie) Flynn, his grandchildren Ricky, Troy, Kyra, and Colton Flynn, and his great-grandson Ezekiel Johnson.
The family wishes to thank everyone at Good Samaritan and Yakima Regional Hospital who took such good care of Ted.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014, at 1:30 p.m., at Tahoma Cemetery.
