Thereca Grace Robertson Cost, 88, died at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS on March 16. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at First Baptist Church of Jackson at 10am on Wednesday, March 20, followed by burial at Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, March 19 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, High Street, Jackson and 9am Wednesday at the church.
Grace was born June 8, 1924 in Calhoun County, Mississippi to Henry Eugene and Julia Mathis Robertson. She moved to Jackson after high school and married her high school sweetheart Cecil Cost in 1945. She lived in the Jackson area most of her adult life. Her work for the federal government was interrupted while the children were young, and then she returned to work for the U. S. Forest Service, from which she retired in 1988 after a total of 35 years of career service.
Grace was a loving wife, mother, sister, and daughter, who spent much of her life serving others. She cared for her own parents in their final years during the 1950's, and helped to comfort and care for her older brothers and extended family members in their declining health of later years. Even while raising her own family, she taught and devoted time to youth in Sunday School and other church groups. As a senior herself, she volunteered her time to visiting and enriching the lives of church members and friends who were ill or in hospitals and nursing homes, often bringing home-cooked dishes or inspirational reading material. She was devoted to the church throughout her life - initially Ellard Baptist Church in Calhoun County, where she professed her faith as a Christian while a teenager, then Calvary Baptist Church of Jackson, and finally First Baptist Church, where she has worshiped for 35 years. She loved Christian music and was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church Reflections Choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers - Russell, Houston, and Delma. She is survived by her husband of 67 years and two children, daughter Deborah of Salt Lake City, Utah, and son Tim (Linda) of Madison County, Mississippi, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Reflections Choir, First Baptist Church, Jackson.
