Theresa Catherine Bates, 71, Gladstone, MO, passed away October 9, 2010 at Northcare Hospice House. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00 AM Friday, October 15th at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 900 NE Shady Lane Dr, Kansas City, MO; burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 PM Thursday at the McGilley Antioch Chapel where a rosary will be prayed at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to Northcare Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Theresa was born February 9, 1939 in Monroe County, IA and had lived in this area for the past 50 years. On December 31, 1960 she married Paul Bates and they recently celebrated this Golden Wedding Anniversary. She attended Northwest Missouri and Maple Woods Colleges. Her employment of a 20 year span included Banker's Life of Des Moines, Northwest Bell Telephone Co, Look Magazine, Greyhound Bus Lines, Hilton Airport Plaza Inn, NFSHA, Macy's and as a lab assistant at Maple Woods. Theresa was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary Council #3414. She was a volunteer for the Hamilton Height's Swim Team and the YMCA. She loved to cook, bake, decorate for holidays, camping, boating, reading; collecting figurines, antiques, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, William & Margaret Vogel Knowles, 2 brothers, Jack & Jim Knowles and a sister, Margaret Knowles.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Bates, Sr., children, Julie Augustyn (Joe), Paul Bates, Jr. (Lisa), Terri Rodina (Tommy), & Vince Bates; 5 grandchildren, Austin, Tess, Kara, Jake & Vincent; a brother Ed Knowles (Rose), St. Louis, MO; a sister, Ellen Wobbeking, W Des Moines, IA; a nephew, Killian; niece, Lori Beltran (Ray) and many other nieces & nephews.
